Outburst
The Outburst series explores the relationship between control and spontaneity in painting. A byproduct of the COVID-19 era, the motif emerged from an urge to move forward during a period of stagnation. Its repetitive structure provided a consistent point of departure, allowing me to respond intuitively through shifts in color, composition, and gesture. Working with acrylic on burlap, I employ tools and predetermined structures to establish a sense of order while allowing the materials and painting process to introduce moments of unpredictability. Through repetition and variation, each painting becomes a response to what came before, balancing the familiar with the unexpected and finding new possibilities within a recurring form.
