Like many, I've spent far more time than I would like to admit staring at screens in recent years. Daily moments of "idle" time, once spent gazing, thinking or daydreaming have been co-opted by a phone, laptop or television and ultimately warped my perception of reality. And while the convenience of having all sorts of media at my finger tips was novel at one point, it's slowly diluted the richness of experiencing life in real time.
This piece is a commentary on the new relationship I have with screens. The banner's measurements equal those of a 75" TV screen, with each repeating rectangle corresponding to the most popular television screen sizes purchased in 2021 (65",55",50",43",32"). My color choices were informed by the classic TV color bar test screen.
